A WHOLE HISTORY

What does BBS stand for?
BBS stands for Barrau Business Systems, which brings together the three key elements of our identity:

  • Barrau pays tribute to our predecessors—the founders of the company—and our deep local roots. Back in the 1890s, Maison Barrau was a bakery. It later became a general store under the name Barrau & Cie in partnership with the Barrau, Daly, and Ollivaud families. It was a true institution for the people of New Caledonia, a place where they could find everything they needed—much like our own version of Galeries Lafayette.

  • Business because BBS operates exclusively in the professional (B2B) market, offering tailor-made solutions adapted to our clients’ needs, with a clear goal: to improve their performance.

  • Systems refers to Information Systems or IT Systems, which represent our DNA and our core business—the reason you trust us.

Since its creation, BBS has continually evolved to support technological change and meet the needs of businesses:

  • 1963: Barrau Bureau is established. With the rise of electronics, BBS begins selling the first copy machines (the Ronéo) and cash registers.

  • 1983: Barrau Bureau enters the IT market with the first IBM PC, eventually becoming the brand’s local representative.

  • 1998: Barrau Bureau accelerates its transformation into a service-oriented company and becomes BBS – Barrau Business Systems.

  • Since 2017: The new management team brings a fresh dynamic with several initiatives: a new visual identity, new premises, international expansion, and the development of new services. This ongoing commitment to innovation continues to drive our growth today.

2024–2025: A new chapter for BBS

While New Caledonia faces a complex and pivotal period in its history, BBS continues to grow through two major developments:

  • Expansion into the Pacific: BBS is strengthening its presence in the region by establishing a secondary office in the Pacific. This step aims to solidify our position and offer tailored solutions to meet local needs.

  • Partnership with RESADIA: BBS becomes a member of the RESADIA group—the leading network of digital service providers in France and overseas. RESADIA brings together 30 IT companies, with 150 locations, nearly 2,000 employees, and 80,000 clients. Through this partnership, BBS becomes RESADIA’s representative in the Pacific, opening up new opportunities in public sector markets. It also allows us to expand our service offering, particularly in cloud computing, networking, and unified communications, while gaining access to a shared purchasing platform.

In return, BBS brings RESADIA its expertise, the know-how of its subsidiaries, its influence across the Pacific, and access to “follow the sun” service models. This strategic partnership marks a key step in our development and positions us as a major player in the Pacific region.

A VISION

Today, BBS has 40 employees. We have two service centers, the first in charge of supervision, operation and administration of IT infrastructures. The second is dedicated to supporting user work environments. We have also strengthened our project department, which now numbers five people. Their aim: to make your information systems more agile and efficient. We integrate the cyber-security component right from the project design stage, to guarantee the continuity and resilience of your information systems.

We host our customers’ infrastructures and applications in the two most advanced data centers in the region.

To carry out all these activities, we draw inspiration from current best practices, whether ITIL for support activities, or DevOps, AGILE or LEAN for project management.

Since 2022, three new entities have been created. They respond to the new challenges facing companies:

For the intelligent collection and management of enterprise data and the promotion of Open Source solutions. APID stands for Alternative Projects for Intelligence in Data.

Integration of business solutions such as CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), EDM (Electronic Document Management) and relational database management.
